It grows and grows. The visions become clearer. Someone is speaking in forgotten languages. And so, it begins: a descent into the unknown, and we descend fast. Wind brushes against our faces, a whispered spell guiding us downward. Hammers strike red-hot rods, tolling like bells.

We enter a new world. The tunnel behind us shrinks and crumple like old paper.

Silence. Absolute silence. With each breath, a vibration ripples through our bodies. It feels like fainting, with the last sound we heard looping in our minds, like a broken needle stuck in a groove.

Our eyes open. The needle unsticks.

We discover movement — and we move. Celestial bodies streak past, grazing our skin as they rocket through space. Then, suddenly, everything stops. Darkness.

A sharp ray of light pierces the void, striking a point in the distance. A figure stands behind decks of alien electronic instruments, something out of an H.R. Giger dream. Every now and then, the Alien DJ sends bursts of green light scattering in all directions. Its gravitational pull is strong. We drift toward it. Closer and closer, until the DJ lifts his gaze to meet ours.

Time slows — not frozen, just infinitely slow. Floating in darkness isn’t so bad when you’re not alone. The alien DJ teaches us how to surrender to the space current, to let it carry our bodies like a river through the stars. Let go. Let the cosmic winds brush against your face once more, guiding you on an intergalactic journey. Gas giants drift around us, pulling us like one of their spectacular moons. We slip in and out of different gravities, gliding on an endless, perfect water slide — rising, falling, faster and faster — until we watch our bodies tear away from us and plunge far away into the pool of darkness that is the universe.

What a ride.

Conditions III is out now via Nice Swan Recordings.
