L’objectif share new EP ‘The Left Side’
The Leeds based band prove that they won’t succumb to one genre.
Known for their vibrant use of not playing by the rules, L’objectif released their latest work The Left Side under Chess Club Records on 22nd March. The band, consisting of Saul Kane, Louis Bullock, Ezra Glennon and Dan Richardson, are to now embark on their headline tour this month, including a visit to the much-loved Brudenell Social Club for their hometown gig on April 13th.
entitled starts the EP off strong with dreamy-bedroom-like guitar riffs. The track is easy listening and comes with relatable lyrics about life and everyday teenage troubles. Conman gives us a change of pace with a lot more rhythm guitar and a faster pace to the song. The Dance You Sell has proven to be a popular track amongst fans and brings us back down to earth before bringing us back up to that vibrant, uplifting fast pace we’re used to – the track is a musical rollercoaster (and we’re here for it!). Puppy, ITSA and What A Time To Be Alive come in their respectable order before finishing the EP with the much-loved track, Lily Of The Valley. The track follows themes of ambition and failure as Kane mentions “…how the two sides of the brain can work against each other…” which is what the band wanted to portray in the song.
Kane beautifully sums up the EP by saying: “It’s the closest we have been to knowing what picture we want to paint… It’s another window into the musical space we wish to explore, yet I think we’re closer to having our sound.” He then later goes on to describe how the EP is almost a bittersweet goodbye to their teenage years after Kane and Bullock formed the band together back when they were tweens.
The Left Side is out now via Chess Club Records.
