Leeds, Let’s have ya! CHA CHA CHA…

Although it’s a school night for most, it didn’t stop Leeds selling out the Brudenell Social Club for young musician Seb Lowe (and his band). Based over in Manchester, Lowe sings relatable songs about the struggles of being a young adult in this society, politics, keeping up with the latest fashion trends and, of course, relationships.

Seb (vocals, acoustic guitar) is accompanied by his dream team dressed to the nines, Kate Couriel (vocals, violin), Sam Summer (bass), Ben Etches (lead guitar) and Joel Goodwin (drums). Some would say that he is the “ardest man in indie” whilst others suggest that he is the one of 2024’s artists to watch out for. If Seb Lowe could have a spiritual animal, it would be the little girl on TikTok that you see going, “1..2..CHA CHA CHA”.

To kick things off for the night we had the lovely Felix Hill, a singer songwriter based in Bolton as well as rising star Alex Spencer and his band based in Manchester. Both boys received a warm and loving welcome from fans this evening and I can safely say, they won the crowd over with their sets.

From the get-go, the room never let go of their enthusiastic energy – we had the fangirls screaming every lyric to every song to mosh pits being formed left, right and centre. The crowd was mainly filled with teens and young adults, it was lovely to hear all the parents/older folk commenting on how much they enjoyed “a musician that is taking a real concern in their view on parliament. We need more musicians like this to help educate or at least get the point across to more young adults about what it’s like to have a say within the future of our country. I myself, didn’t really start paying attention to politics until the start of university because I simply didn’t know people my age who were interested or where to even begin searching – my 16 year old self needed an artist like this.

The band announced their new single Jump Scare, which is set to be released April 24th and, if you were lucky enough to be in Leeds, you were one of the first to hear the song in its entirety played live. The song is about being in your 20s and not knowing what to do with yourself and how you’re certainly not ready to become an adult. At 21 I’m certainly not ready to be an adult — are we really going to let me become classed as an ‘adult’ when I can’t cook a singular portion of pasta and I still burn my rice in the pan? Jump Scare, we are ready for you.

The last time Lowe and the band played Leeds, they filled up half the room and now they had us all packed in like wee sardines. To see the band go from a small fan base to them selling out all of their headline tour just shows how much potential the band has. Their social media has blown up over the last six months with 101k followers on Instagram and 427k on TikTok. They truly are the next biggest thing to come out of 2024 — I mean, not only have they sold out their own headline tour they’re also joining big artists like Liam Gallagher and The K’s on the Main Stage at Reading and Leeds Festival this August.

Leeds, we can well and truly agree: Fuck the Tories!
