Following their recent single release, Left Right Forward, STONE are in the midst of a wonderful run of gigs. They’ve brought perfect levels of energy every night; exciting the crowd into a lively buzz. After the band recently played some amazing support slots for bands such as The Wombats and Inhaler, it is refreshing to see STONE put their own spin on headline gigs.

Opening the night was the up-and-coming band; Safe At Any Speed. The band have an intriguing sound which blends together classic rock with a unique new sound of today. Frontman, Blake Miller, commands the stage with the confidence of a veteran performer. The four-piece definitely got the crowd ready and excited for STONE to take to the stage.

Starting their set with fan favourites such as, I Let Go and Keep Running, the band immediately inject the crowd with passion and vitality. Before playing their latest single; Left Right Forward, which the crowd of loyal fans already sung along to as if it is a classic.

The band also played three unreleased tracks; I Got A Feeling, If You Wanna and Fear Life For A Lifetime, all of which were adored by the crowd. Fear Life For A Lifetime presented a new side to STONE as Frontman, Fin Power, provided an emotional, heat-felt backstory to the song about personal loss which resonated with many people in the room; creating a beautiful atmosphere throughout the song.

Throughout the entire set the band’s strong bond was clear in their cohesive performance. Fin Power commanded the stage, bringing high energy; jumping around along with the crowd. Guitarist, Elliot Gill, demonstrated his incredible flare that complimented the tracks perfectly, as well as drummer, Alex Smith, who showcased his amazing skillset, particularly during his astonishing solo before the encore. Sarah Surrage’s bass-playing prowess provided female empowerment, adding an interesting dynamic to the vocals on tracks like Moto.

As the band left the stage, the crowd were left chanting for ‘one more song’ — luckily STONE took the stage again for two final songs. The closing song of the night, Leave It Out, was the perfect end to an amazing first headline gig in Nottingham for the four-piece. Fin Power took the time to give a speech about how important growing as a band and earning this success is to them, which was a touching moment to see the humanity of a band. As the crowd did their final mosh pits and applauses, it was clear that STONE are well adored by their fans.

This spring tour has solidified STONE’s place amongst the best of the current indie genre. There is no doubt in my mind that we are sure to see them headline bigger and bigger venues as they go on. It is clear that the Liverpool band are here to stay and inject their energetic sound into music.
