Aphex Twin announces EP after five year hiatus


After a characteristically lengthy pause since his 2018 EP Collapse, Irish-British electronic artist Aphex Twin is back with new music.

After five long, quiet years, Aphex Twin has announced the release of his upcoming EP Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760

Electronic artist Aphex Twin aka Richard D. James is not unfamiliar to long pauses in his career. He was on a hiatus as Aphex Twin for thirteen years before returning with his 2014 album Sylo

The announcement for the new EP was implicit, tweeting out anticipating Sónar 2023 in Barcelona, “LOOK OUT FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL IN SONAR +D PROJECT AREA AND AT THE MERCH DESK.” With it being his first performance in four years, fans were excited to gain access to a QR code that linked to a teaser of new music through from the enigmatic artist through AR app, YXBoZXh0d2lu. These QR codes were also spotted in Los Angeles, further promoting the artist’s comeback.

The track Blackbox Life Recorder 21f from the EP was uploaded onto Soundcloud in the beginning of last week (June 21) before it quickly got deleted then reuploaded on to major streaming services. He will be touring Europe in the summer in support of the upcoming project.

Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760 is out July 28th via WARP Records.
