Finn Wolfhard announces debut solo album with first single ‘Choose the latter’
The Stranger Things star’s first album is set for release this June.
Despite being best known for his starring roles in Netflix’s Stranger Things and two Ghostbusters reboots, Finn Wolfhard is no stranger to music. Having spent his youth listening to his parents’ old Beatles records and endearingly imitating beloved rock bands The Replacements and Guided By Voices, Finn’s love for music has seen him release numerous tracks with the bands Calpurnia and The Aubreys alongside his acting career. Now launching his solo music career, Finn has recently announced his debut solo album Happy Birthday, which is scheduled for release June 6th.
Speaking on the album, Finn said: “I ended up writing a lot of terrible stuff, but a few of those songs I was really proud of went to the Aubreys. I started realising a general theme in a lot of the other songs involving my identity, anxieties, nostalgia, childhood and loneliness. All of that was a part of a bigger puzzle. I knew I wanted to make a record, but I didn’t know with which songs.”
“Music for me has always been something that I can control. And while I’m really grateful for acting and for a long time, it really provided me that peace, it’s just a different thing now that I’m an adult and that it’s a career. I still enjoy it a lot, but when I am by myself and get to play guitar and write a song, it’s a different kind of feeling I’m after.”
Alongside this announcement, Finn has also shared his first single Choose the latter – a nostalgia-tinged, Beatles-esque earworm, which he hopes will give listeners an early taste of what to expect from the record – and has shared news of a run of North American headlining shows.
