Phoebe Green announces debut studio album ‘Lucky Me’
The Northern alt-pop star shared a single of the same name.
This is the news I’ve been waiting for: a debut studio album from Phoebe Green. It will be one of the best albums of the year, mark my words.
There is no doubt that Phoebe is one of the best lyricists in modern music right now — they mix the brutal honesty of artists like Lily Allen and Baby Queen along with their satirical sense of humour to create something so perfectly balanced.
I’ve been a fan of Phoebe for a very long time (I’ve lost count of how many years now) but to this day she continues to surprise me. Whatever I expect from her, she produces the opposite. If you aren’t listening to them, you should be. Despite the release of new music over the years, even her earlier self-released debut album is incredibly listenable.
The title track Lucky Me is Phoebe’s move into a new alt-pop sound, akin to the likes of Billie Eilish, who has supported Phoebe in the past. It’s nothing short of a surprise, especially the music video (she throws knives at herself).
If this is a taste of what’s to come later this year, then I’m excited to see what else she and her band have come up with.
Lucky Me is out on 19th August via Chess Club Records. Pre-order here.
