Roxy Girls share new track ‘Like a Buoy’ and announce EP

Boisterous vocals, can’t-quit-it guitar, and an unforgettable swagger puts Roxy Girls on our radar

With the current uproar of ‘post-punk’ in the UK, Roxy Girls are another to add to the post-Brexit-punk list that is growing extensively long. As someone who is unashamedly a big fan of this new phenomenon — which has gained its fair few haters — I can’t help but find this particular track infectious.

Although they’ve been boxed into a genre by people desperate to compare them to the likes of Home Counties or Courting, the corners are blurred; paving way for them to experiment with their sound and delivering vocals reminiscent of Blaenavon frontman Ben. Throw Ian Curtis’s notorious vocal delivery into the mix and you have that perfect balance of late 70s rock blended with kooky modern indie.

Like a far happier The Smiths, “dissatisfaction” is repeated over juxtaposing guitar work, making for a ceremonious offering from the Sunderland band.

Like a Buoy is the first sweet slice from four-track EP “Roxy Girls Are In The Drink”, out on 27th August via Moshi Moshi Records. Preorder HERE.
