Veps announce 2nd album with new track ‘Greetings from Peru’
The band released their debut album in 2022.
It didn’t seem too long ago that this quartet from Norway managed to get the recognition they deserved and turn a lot of heads, especially with the release of their debut album Oslo Park. To say that Veps only started in 2018 while the members were still in school together, it’s amazing how far they have come on their journey so far. Now, as well as announcing their 2nd album ‘Dedicated’ (for release later in the year), Veps have also released their first single in almost a year with Greetings from Peru.
Now, this is a track that starts right off the bat with fun, feel-good energy, with no intention of leaving at any point in the song. Delightfully raw and lo-fi guitar licks enter the scene, something that the band has become quite apt at. The DIY-esque and rough sound Veps is so good at producing in their songs was so enjoyable on Oslo Park, and it’s great to see it’s not something the band would stray from going into their second album.
The chorus here is a delightful hook – as a band Veps manage to produce some magic with lead vocalist Helena Mariero Olasveengen for a real neat harmony, and that’s on full display here. Pair that up with the wonderful guitar work, and it makes something that’s a joyous, bouncy hit. How well the four members get on together really seeps through into their music.
Speaking on the single, the band commented, “‘Greetings from Peru’ is a song written from when one of us was backpacking through South America, and figuring out what they wanted back home. It’s about how distance can make a picture much clearer, and sometimes the right amount of distance is halfway around the world.”
Overall, Greetings from Peru is a fantastic opening for Dedicated To. It’s truly set the tone – this will not be a move away from the raw but powerful sound that’s made them beloved by their fans. To me, that’s a good thing, more lo-fi indie hits are exactly what we need from Veps.
Dedicated To is out June 14th via Miktam Records/Universal Music.
