English indie artist Will Joseph Cook has released his latest single MF Baseline. The single is the latest release since his third album Every Single Thing and his single Gummy Bear with American indie-pop artist Tessa Violet. Following an Autumn 2022 tour with the aforementioned singer and a series of UK record store performances, Will Joseph Cook will hit the road as a headlining act.

MF BASELINE is an indie-pop banger about a breakup that is sure to get stuck in your head. Starting with a simple yet sly guitar riff, a snare takes the lead once Joseph begins. He rides the wave of the snare with ease and is joined by classic indie sonics; a synth, complimentary guitar chords, and just the right amount of spatial sound. The centre point of the song comes in its chorus, “I’ve been lower than a mother fucking bass line” which is about as direct of an emotional explanation as one could get, and it’s undeniably catchy. Being stuck in a post-breakup rut is in for catchy indie tunes.

If it couldn’t get any cooler, the music video for MF BASELINE centres around Will Joseph Cook as a human with a speaker for a head. Directed by Robert Strange, it utilizes glitchy music line graphics, alternating vivid colour schemes, blue, vintage hues, and VCR aesthetics. A cool indie kids’ music video, it toes the line of aesthetic and comedic with perfect balance. The video also stars model Kizzy Rain as the love interest.

Will Joseph Cook’s North American tour will begin with a performance at Tecate Pal Norte Festival in Monterey, Mexico, and see him through to the United States and Canada. It was recently announced that he will be joined by DIY/bedroom pop musician Charlie Bennett (he/they) for the UK tour, with alternative band DBMK as the openers for the North America dates (sans Mexico).

MF Baseline is out now via Bad Hotel/The Vertex.
