Abbie Ozard shares ‘i don’t know happiness without you’: an ode to friendships

Does anyone actually know what they’re doing when they’re 25?

As Suzi Waterhouse once accurately stated, “It’s hard for young women in your 20s, it’s the trenches.” This sentiment is captured in its most raw form in Abbie Ozard’s latest single i don’t know happiness without you where the indie singer explores the chaos that is young adulthood.

While some friends are living at home, others are having babies; while some don’t know how to cook, others own their own businesses. Your 20s are a whirlwind of comparison and races you find yourself accidentally a part of, even if you don’t want to be.

Ozard’s gentle vocals carry us through the charming indie track, crafting the bittersweet feeling of faking maturity when you still feel like a child. The track acts as an emotional crutch, reassuring the listener that this turmoil is normal and the lack of having everything figured out is universal.

Where i don't know happiness without you shines is within the chorus. It’s an uplifting breath of fresh air amongst the more hesitant words of the verses. Despite Ozard opening the track with “everything has a shelf life,” she reaffirms in the chorus that “we’ll be fine forever.”
