Balancing Act’s debut EP had all the signs of a confident group of songwriters: a deep understanding of the indie rock genre and its conventions but without following a template or mirroring anything seen before, creating a strong record with exciting tunes. With the new single, however, Balancing Act shows another level of class. Before I Shoot feels like a grittier take on the style they set out in Malice In Tone, and an extension of the sound they have established for themselves.

Dynamic drums, strong vocal melodies from Kai Roberts, and atmospheric guitar and bass owe to a fulfilling sonic journey throughout a song that screams maturity. Roberts speaks of how the song is about a hard breakup, a feeling written authentically and excellently into the lyrics and general feel of the song. Acoustic guitar breakdowns and choral backing vocals only add to the wide soundscape of the track, showcasing its great production.

With shows in London and Manchester coming up, it feels as if the band is finding their feet, and Before I Shoot promises they will stand tall.
