Being Dead refuse to conform with freakish new track ‘Goodnight’

The Aussie psych-rockers share their punchy new song.

Kickstarting the enigmatic vibes of the spookiest autumn, Texas’ Being Dead’s new single is a genreless, mystifying treat. It’s sparse and deafening in equal measure, with co-vocalists Falcon Bitch and Shmoofy delivering their most matter-of-fact efforts possible. The latest single from the Austin-based group’s upcoming record, EELS, is about the two fundamentals of human nature: sex and love.

But more than that, Goodnight is a collection of poetic verses echoing all manner of legendary acts, from debut-era Vaccines and chamber-pop essentials The Magnetic Fields through to Ghost’s ‘70s psych rock Opus Eponymous era – with just a kick of the Orion Experience’s glimmering, feelgood pop. It defies mortal labels but remains an irresistible hit of adrenaline all the same.

EELS is out September 27th via Bayonet Records.
