gaws are a four piece post-punk band formed in Bristol. Following a successful year making appearances at Dot to Dot festival and Bristol Harbour festival, their newest release embodies the intense and energetic sound that their fans have become accustomed to.

Who Knows starts off with an overdriven guitar sound almost sounding like the heavier Oasis tracks. However, the song quickly turns to more of a punk sound as the vocals and drums are introduced. The song also has a very consistent bassline underneath which gives the sound some cohesion.

The track then intensifies more and more until it gets to its heaviest point with a ‘dirty’ guitar sound. The main instrumental in the middle of the track sounds very much like the sort of section you’d find in a Foo Fighters song.

In the second half of the track there is a lack of vocals until the chorus returns, for the most part it is heavy rhythm guitar with an exceptional lead guitar sound which really elevates the track and almost replaces the vocals for a while.

The track ends with the original ‘heavy Oasis’ guitar sound that opens the track giving it a nice cyclical feel.

Overall, an impressive third edition of gaws’ sound. They will look to really kick into the swing of things in 2023 with headline shows in Bristol and London and also a slot at Outer Town Festival.

Who Knows is out on the 27th of March. Stay in the loop with gaws here.
