frances mistry shares latest track ‘empty towns’

As hated as TikTok is by some, mindlessly scrolling on the app lead me to discover a talent hiding in the algorithm.

I always feel a sense of pride in finding hidden talents on social media to rave about, but something tells me the algorithm knows me too well by now. It knows I’m a sucker for soft, gentle vocals with tentative lyrics; written so narratively it’s like looking into someone’s life through a looking glass.

Having been played (and praised) by Clairo, it won’t be long before the 20-year-old is playing the same stages that she once did. Once you’ve been noticed by someone who inspires you, you’re on the right path.

With reflective lyrics, Frances is a natural storyteller and adds more than just words to her music. Besides being her own affluent songwriter, she self-produces all of her own music in her bedroom — and does so to an impressively high standard.

empty towns is another brilliant example of Frances’ laid-back, indie-pop sound and leaves us eagerly anticipating her next move. And routing for her to feature on the Heartstopper Part Two soundtrack (if there is a part two, that is).
