Back with their second release of 2024, Glasgow band GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH are continuing to augment their already impressive repertoire and prove they are a band worthy of their own ambition.

Reaching dizzying heights on new single Is there any space on the moon?, GSF’s runaway melodies and driving rhythms elevate their already addictive sound to practically stratospheric levels.

Exploring a more comical side to their craft, Is there any space on the moon? tells the tale of a couple who are forever frequenting barstools and dance floors, absorbed in the untamed chaos of their local nightlife. Such a tall tale demands memorable lyrics and thrilling musicality, and fortunately GSF do not disappoint.

Stand-out lines like “Well not to be dramatic / But the look in her eye was like a semiautomatic easily demonstrate the band’s knack for witty storytelling while emphasising their lyrical individuality. There is also a lovely sense of melancholy to the track, with the song’s chorus suggesting that this couple are yearning for an escape from this intensely dizzying aspect of their life: “Is there any space on the moon for me?”.

Yet, we might as well be on the moon with the high levels of ecstasy that dynamic guitarist Gio Matvichuk pummels at us. Combined with Christopher Quinn’s heart-pounding bass, the smash and crash of Sam Lomas’ drums and not to mention Joshua Campbell’s formidable vocals, this is a song that can do no wrong.

GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH are forever speaking my language.

Is there any space on the moon? is out now.
