‘Last Time’ by Good Posture reminds us that there’s beauty in the world

A love letter to our mental health. Let the second single from Good Posture’s EP Changin’ soothe your mind and lift your soul

I have a headache. I need to state that from the off, because it’s important when it comes to listening to – and reviewing – music, and in particular certain genres of music. Some will make your head worse, and some will soothe you. Luckily, Last Time by Good Posture is delightfully twinkly and helped ease the pain in my brain.

In terms of the music, it feels a little ‘80s, vaguely akin to A-Ha’s Take On Me, but perhaps with traces of Air’s Sexy Boy about it. Damn… I’m starting to describe music as if it were wine. Swilling my aural palate around I detect notes of cherry and chocolate, with a bitter finish (in this realisation).

Let’s stick to the track in question. Last Time is joyful, but not overdone. It’s peaceful but it won’t put you to sleep. It’s mellow yet still has a bit of bite to it. It’s upbeat but won’t fade into the background. Is it all things to all lovers of music?  Probably not, but it was a nice listen all the same.

It’s the sort of song that you’d drift away to on a sleepy Sunday, or when you need cheering up. I’d file this under ‘good for mental health’ – a piece of music that reminds you there’s beauty and good in the world. And speaking of beauty… the video begins with woodland and birdsong, and ends with a guy swimming peacefully in a lake.

It’s all rather lovely.

There’s a meme if you’ve seen it, ‘nature is healing’, which often gets used to describe something not natural returning to its original state. As memes go, I guess it’s meant to be ironic. However, if we use the argument that we, people, are part of nature – and that by spending time in nature we do heal, then this track feels like a love letter to that process.

Changin’ is out on the 22nd of October via Feeltrip Records and Tip Top Recordings.
