Lissy Taylor, the Stoke-cum-Manchester singer-songwriter, has consistently delivered high-quality pristinely produced guitar-driven indie to rival the likes of her key inspirations HAIM and Phoebe Bridger. Her latest single Young is certainly no deviation from this trend. Perfectly encapsulating the uncertainty that comes with change and recognising that this may not be a wholly negative thing, Lissy encourages us to scream from the top of our lungs “we are young on the repeating chorus to remind us of the possibility and opportunity we are lucky enough to still be afforded.

The production on this track is squeaky clean, with no instrument too loud or too insignificant, each element builds a to make a bright, driving indie anthem. Guitars stay clean and audible providing some of the most beautifully melodic moments on the track, evoking memories of sunny days gone by. Drums are maximal enough to pay the track the grandeur it deserves yet they never overpower the mix. The real showstopper however comes from Taylor’s vocal performance. Never off-pitch, she blends seamlessly in with the bright instrumentation whilst adding a hint of whimsical retroflexion giving the track its nostalgic yet hopeful character.

Lissy Taylor should be on the radar of every indie-lover as she will no doubt continue to impress with her talent for professionally polished earworms in the years to come.
