Lois makes her debut with ‘The Way You Are’

With sweet and finely-tuned vocals you’d be forgiven for thinking this track is a release from a pop star well into her career

There’s a new kid on the block — one who has been waiting on the sidelines, waiting to find her sound instead of releasing anything she fancies straight off the bat.

Although Lois is self-proclaimed as ‘alt-pop’, it’s clear to hear the influence of soul throughout her debut; the track is doused in it from beginning to end. Her vocals are glazed in sticky syrup, letting her showcase her affection for the recipient of the lyrics all while sounding smooth and assured.

The track is laying out the red carpet for her forthcoming EP, teasing what’s in store — this is just the beginning of her journey, and so far the ship is only cruising.

It’s scary releasing something so clearly personal for the first taste of your talent, but Lois doesn’t hold back lyrically. After all, writing a song about someone is the highest form of flattery — surely it being the first-ever track must make it even more so.

While this may be a debut, this is one hell of a smooth-talking debut. Lois is here, she’s confident and she’s come to claim her spot in the alt-pop scene.

Lois plays her first show at Brighton’s The Great Escape festival on the 12th of May.
