Matilda Mann and Spill Tab make a bright start to the year with ‘Borderline Insane’
The London singer-songwriter doesn’t disappoint with her brand new single, featuring indie pop sensation Spill Tab.

As if it came straight out of a 2000s coming-of-age film, the playful wave of indie rock brought on by Borderline Insane marks 22-year-old Matilda Mann’s first release of 2023 and proves her as definitely one to watch. With production by Oscar Scheller and collaboration with French Korean singer-songwriter Spill Tab, Borderline Insane is an energetic and lively track that’s sure to satisfy.
From the moment you press play, you are hit with electric waves, prominent beats and a riff sure to be stuck in your head for days (in a good way). The introduction of Mann’s muffled vocals gives the illusion that it is being sung through a telephone, a creative effect matching perfectly with the laid-back nature of the track. The chorus holds all the key elements needed of a great indie rock banger; catchy but with its own unique elements that cause it to stand apart from the rest, found through its multiple pauses, making it even more satisfying when the music starts up again.
Lyrically, the track matches perfectly with its instrumental aspects, with all too relatable lines such as: “I changed my outfit one too many times / Every wisp of hair is out of line” working with its backing to portray the idea of the chaos and over-contemplation that comes with dating. Ultimately Mann’s track encapsulates the feeling of being… well, Borderline Insane, offering us a sure-to-be anthem of the year, perfect for situations from carefree summer drives to getting ready for dates of our own.
