mlbacard¡ treats us to her debut single ‘Ketchup’
The music obsessed artist’s first single is painfully relatable, and we’re not mad about it.
In her melancholic debut, Ketchup, mlbacard¡ introduces her smooth sound, moving melodies and polished lyrics to the music world, creating an irrefutable case for why we should all be keeping an eye out for her future releases.
Influenced by a range of artists including Biig Piig, Metronomy, Brockhampton and The Strokes, mlbacard¡’s debut is a soulful and emotional single that is distinctly her own, both in style and narrative. Her sound is very much an alternative-indie-pop hybrid that beautifully showcases her natural songwriting abilities, whilst also allowing her velvety vocals – that are reminiscent of the likes of Amy Winehouse – to shine through.
Having adored music from a young age, it is clear that her obsession with songs and her inquisitive attitude to sound has allowed her to develop a keen musical ear over the years, as well as generate a desire to explore the never-ending possibilities of sound – which she does with a high level of skill in Ketchup.
On top of this, the track also has a deliciously dark element to it, expressing feelings of depression and isolation through its relatable lyricism, ultimately allowing the listener to connect to the track on a deeper level, whilst still falling in love with the song’s earworm tune.
Setting the tone perfectly for mlbacard¡ as an artist, Ketchup feels like a song that will be played by many for years to come, and I can’t wait to see where mlbacard¡ takes her sound next.
