Despite being separated by the Irish Sea, the duo shows no sign of slowing down with the release of their fifth single

Nixer began as a conversation online between two friends at the beginning of the global pandemic. In just one year of making music together, the duo already have several singles under their belt; all of which were written, recorded and produced remotely by Seán Keenan and Gearóid Peggs in their home studios in London and Dublin respectively. 

Their newest release, Gentrification, is a dark, synth-laced statement on the destruction of culture in cities, where iconic venues full of personality are pulled down to make way for over-priced, character-less apartments and hotels; ultimately homogenising the area and stripping it of its individuality (“Clean these streets of culture / Give the corporations full control”).

The song is written with Dublin in mind, though I have seen similar things in my native Manchester, and it’s rather heart-breaking; as Peggs comments, the lyrics really capture the feeling of “living in a beautiful city that’s being destroyed by money-grabbing developers”.

With poignant lyrics and a fusion of moody guitars and synths, Gentrification is a promising effort from Nixer, and well worth a listen.
