Olivia Browse shares new track ‘Red Stripe’
Though originally written in jest, Olivia Browse’s new single is a catchy, yet bittersweet tale of heartbreak
Originally from Essex, but currently based in Manchester, indie-pop artist Olivia Browse is back with her brand new single Red Stripe.
The track, which Browse admits “started out as a joke”, eventually became one of her favourite songs to play and, after receiving positive feedback from fellow musicians, she decided to release it with her producer Shtum.
Deliberately “poking fun” at typical indie bands from the 2000s, Red Stripe is a story of meeting someone in a nightclub (specifically, 42s in Manchester), though sadly, the romance doesn’t last for long (“‘Can we meet up next week?’ / But she said, ‘Not Likely’”). With references to wearing Joy Division t-shirts and dancing to Morrissey, the words instantly transport you to the scene (despite the fact most of us haven’t set foot in a nightclub in over a year!).
With a catchy chorus and melodic vocals, Red Stripe is an enjoyable tune and showcases Browse’s lyrical ability. This track is definitely worth checking out; especially if you’ve ever drunk a Red Stripe in 42s.
