Scottish punks PERMO reveal their latest track ‘Matryoshka’

Fuelling the Scottish punk fire, PERMO are ones to watch as they creep into our airwaves with their unforgettable sound

PERMO’s influence from the likes of IDLES and Slaves is immediately clear in their most recent track Matryoshka. This blistering track offers over three minutes of that angry post-punk we all can’t get enough of.

With lyrics such as “I hear you droning in the background / Something I don’t really care about / One of your many accomplishments / When are you building your monument”, you can guess the kind of people this song is aimed at. Those egocentric, self-absorbed members of society who are always looking to one-up people and make everything about themselves.

The song title Matryoshka (those wooden dolls of increasing size placed within each other, which suddenly makes the artwork look less like a peanut) also becomes clear later on with lyrics “Layers and layers so full of yourself”. Now, that’s clever.

A raucous band with powerful drumming, fuzzy guitar work and angry, sharp-tongued lyrics — fans of punk-rock like myself will be eagerly waiting for their next release.
