Phoebe Green shares album snippet ‘Just A Game’
Just A Game is anything but ‘just’ a song, it’s an unforgettable amalgamation of Phoebe Green’s talent.

Just A Game is the latest single from Phoebe Green’s upcoming debut studio album, Lucky Me: an album challenging conformity, with its sharp interrogation of the self.
The track is off to a powerful start with immediate old-school post-punk instrumentals, reminiscent of New Order’s signature sound. Green’s vocals are beautifully melodic in a way that coats the track with magic; strikingly fresh compared to the vocals that conventionally accompany post-punk instrumentals.
Introspective lyrics dive into the complications of modern-day hookup culture, exploring the ironic dichotomy of non-intimate intimacy. Phoebe’s internal conflict is shown within the irresistibly catchy chorus, through the lyrics: “Pull me in, push you away, ask me to stay” and “Take off my clothes / But don’t say my name”. After the chorus is introspective spoken prose about the idea of love, atop a synth-fuelled bridge.
As Just A Game approaches its end, another electrifying bridge arises, this time including the bittersweet lyrics: “Hold my hands behind my back / Bury my face / It’s better I can’t turn around / And look at you anyway”. It draws to an unforgettable finish with Green’s final words: “With our mouths closed, no one wins this game”.
The track is further brought to life with its music video, brimming with German expressionist aesthetics and an 80s budget horror movie style. The song’s themes are personified in an entirely unique way; exploring the relationship between a Frankenstein-type monster and its scientist. The music video closes at its climax, leaving viewers with a bold, open ending that will not be forgotten.
