Pipe-eye plays with psych-pop and the sedimentary in trippy new track ‘Travertine’

The King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard musician shares new solo track.

Australian singer-songwriter Cook Craig, renowned for his tenure with psychedelic deities King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and The Murlocs, goes by another name. Pipe-eye is Craig’s own project and he’s gearing up for the release of his first new solo material in three years, Pipe-defy. Set for release on King Gizzard’s own label, p(doom) records, the latest single, Travertine, gives a kaleidoscopic flavour of what’s to come.

Here, Craig lets loose with his ‘70s influences, in a track peppered with funky bass lines, synths and love thy-neighbour-choruses. In much the same vein as Gizzard’s looser tracks (Garden Goblin, Sadie Sorceress, Persistence), Travertine is a kick-back anthem that swiggers and smokes with indifference.

Much like the titular rock, the latest taste of Pipe-defy is solid, shimmering and bountiful; making for a more-than-worthy follow-up to the Daft Punk-y lead single, Lords of Lithium. Much like its music video, Travertine is an explosion of colour and hi-fi fuzz.

Pipe-defy is out October 18th via p(doom) records. Pre-save and pre-order here.
