The Southend-based band are heating up the UK with their mix of chill-summer sound and surf-infused pop

Essex is not the first place you think of when you listen to chill, surf-pop, however, that is precisely what Rooskin delivers. The Southend band, made up of five members, perfectly mixes soothing summer sounds instantly improving your mood and transporting you to late-night campfires and warm sandy beaches.  

Releasing their first single, Goldfish, back in 2018, Rooskin has been steadily putting out music over the years and, after a year of silence, Rooskin have finally revealed their latest single.

As a band Rooskin state that they are influenced by music from the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club, Tame Impala, and War on Drugs — to name a few. It’s evident from listening to Rooskin’s music exactly how these bands have influenced them. Rooskin’s back catalogue always makes for an easy listen and Eloise is no different. 

When I first listened to this new track I found it impossible not to relax, slow down, and just enjoy the moment. This feeling is created even though Eloise has a relatively fast tempo. The quick tempo creates a warm, bright sound that creates an easy and enjoyable listen.

Despite the slightly faster rhythm, Eloise doesn’t rush the intro. The song begins with just the string instruments before the drums come in after about fifteen seconds. The vocals only joining in after 50 seconds have passed and, once they have, it’s a smooth and eloquent ride up until the end. Fitting for surf-pop. 

If you’re looking for chilled-out summer sounds to add to your playlist, then I highly recommended you check out Rooskin’s catalogue. Though it’s not the largest at the moment, I’m sure it’s to grow in the future and I, for one, am excited to see what they put out next.
