Deep Down Happy hit our ears almost two years ago – wow. The debut album soared to number two in the UK album charts, got nominated for the Mercury Prize, and if it wasn’t for a few certain global events a little out of the band’s control, we’d all have been hearing it at every summer BBQ, house party, and night out that year. It really helped the band become a staple of a new generation of indie bands.

The Game perhaps is both a step up and the natural evolution of Sports Team’s sound. Full of powerful riffs, and full of fun; it’s the type of song which makes you crave the release of their next album. And the chorus – once again, wow. Alex Rice’s incredibly dynamic vocals do absolute wonders as always.

The lyrics follow the band’s traditional and usual themes – being in your 20s and feeling dissatisfaction at the mundane world we live and work in. “Life’s hard but I can’t complain, oh yeah, that’s the game!”, isn’t it just Sports Team, isn’t it just.

Gulp! is out on July 22nd via Island Records.
