Taylor Henry sings a cathartic farewell to a relationship on her debut single ‘That’s Alright’
Whilst the future may be uncertain, this delightfully dreamy indie ballad gives a perfect example of taking life by the horns and forging your own path in the face of toxicity.
The LA-based singer-songwriter Taylor Henry shows us she is one to look out for with her debut single That’s Alright.
Taylor certainly doesn’t shy away from deep and complex topics on her first release; the track follows her as she details the reasons for leaving a toxic relationship that has stagnated, leaving her feeling unmotivated and trapped. In times like these, it is often too easy to sink into our routine, finding it ever harder to claw ourselves out. This is why Taylor proclaims, in the opening lines, that she is moving cities for the same reason she is leaving her partner; to get on with life and realise her potential. There’s a fantastic moment where Taylor pawns her ex’s guitar, entirely symbolic of her no-looking-back attitude as she excitedly starts afresh.
Musically, the track serves to extenuate the themes of breaking free, as triumphant horns build to a harmonious fanfare of celebration nearing the latter half of the track. The guitars are bright and summery, waving to and fro over a subtle drum rhythm.
Of course, vocals stand out as being highly polished without losing any of the distinctly emotive sounds, as Taylor’s singing carries the track up and down at her whim: from powerful builds to climactic releases. I also urge you to check out the accompanying music video, as it showcases some superb cinematography and thematically ties in nicely to the track as a whole.
This is not a track to miss for any indie fan, especially those looking to curate the perfect summer playlist. I’m certain Taylor Henry will continue to impress in years to come.
