Don’t bother with a safeword, just turn up the volume.

In keeping with their Reservoir Dogs-esque music video, The Bedside Morale have made a whopping big mark with their debut single Safeword. From the moment you press play, catchy lyrics, head bopping drums, and gutsy guitars slap you in the face, leaving you not only yearning for the resurgence of late 90s infectious rock, but also begging The Bedside Morale to be the ones to bring it back.

With a musical history dating back to 2014, albeit under different iterations, it’s really no wonder the indie-rock band have been able to produce such a clean and sincere sound in their debut track. The drums and guitars soar effortlessly atop the low bass groove, while Tim Kazer’s vocals bring a welcome wave of feeling and personality to a song that risked being mechanical given that, at its core, it’s extremely well-constructed.

It seems that the closeness the band developed over the years has not only enabled each member to musically express their genuine selves, but to also become unafraid to bring new elements into their writing. And perhaps that’s why they’ve lyrically articulated the specific but common feeling of turning to nostalgia when the world gets too much so perfectly. They’ve given themselves the musical freedom that allows Safeword to exist as an attractive lure for rose-tinted thoughts, as well as a song that you could easily get lost in over and over again.
