Only Good Things showcases a development in The Murder Capital’s sound since the release of their 2019 debut album When I Have Fears. It brings a sense of lightness and optimism which hugely contrasts the intense nihilism which fuelled the band’s beautifully volatile debut.

It’s safe to say this track surprised me. Although endowed with a similar signature moodiness to their previous work, the track explores a lighter, more danceable sound through swinging guitar lines and melodious vocals whilst still being recognisably them.

The Irish outfit have retained a sense of maturity through clever lyricism while simultaneously exploring a more playful side through their instruments. The song explores love through a hopeful lens and is heavily driven by the anthemic chorus — which is almost impossible not to sing along to.

It is undeniably exciting to see the band exploring new avenues in terms of their sound, whilst still remaining authentic to the image that their debut album built of them. This single is a sparkling example of the versatility of the band.

The Murder Capital have certainly made a stylish comeback and I am enthralled to see what comes next.
