The Umlauts, a nine-piece hailing from all over Europe, have dropped Mad Blue Love, the first taste of their upcoming LP Slags, and it goes for the jugular.

Mad Blue Love features the strangely hypnotic and intense vocals of Dry Cleaning’s Florence Shaw with the hardcore thump of the late ‘90s club scene. The whole track feels a bit like a fever dream; it jangles, whines, pierces and shatters the walls between genres, somewhere between electro-rock and art-pop. One thing is for certain, though, the Umlauts’ track doesn’t lack energy. It’s the nerdy, ‘80s synth-pop indiehead’s dream, and will no doubt prove a hurricane when unleashed on the stage.

For fans of powerful, pure morphine-rock acts like Amyl & the Sniffers and the aforementioned Dry Cleaning, The Umlauts are sure to please.

Slags is out tomorrow (October 13th) via PRAH Recordings.
