A mature and textured track, it shows a band growing in confidence in themselves and exploring new realms of their distinctive dream-pop sound.

The release sees singer Ela Tolstova take centre-stage over a synthy beat which, in true Tolstoys fashion, quickly begins to open up into layers. Starting as dark and melodramatic, the melody is transformed by pleasant piano keys and Tolstova’s endearing vocals. Melancholic violin strings structure the chorus, bringing emotion to the words “show me gentle”.

Throughout, the production fluctuates between mysterious elements and dulcet tones. This is best shown when the bridge opens up into a brief mania, which includes an echo of laughing. As well as being a dreamy song that’s easy to get lost in, Gentle melds orchestral sounds with a seductive bassline, resulting in a beautiful exposé of the power of femininity.

This is supported by the video too, which sees Tolstova dancing alone into the camera in an empty dance studio, in a well-choreographed illustration of femininity that is both confident and fragile.

On the video, Ela’s own words summarise the song succinctly: “This music video was very hard for me to do. Besides all the physical aspects and training it required it was also an internal battle. It doesn’t come easily for me to show my femininity. Some things are blocked off deep inside me and I tend to mask it all with shyness. This song and the team of strong women working on it helped me overcome my insecurities and be a step closer to the woman I would like to become. Thank you, girls.”
