Veps return with new lovestruck single ‘UFO’

Nearly a year to the day since the release of their debut single, the Norwegian four-piece is back with another must-listen track.

There is something wonderful about a band on your peripherals suddenly coming into fruition with a single release, which then makes you explore their whole discography. Veps first entered my sights with the release of His Brother in the autumn of last year. UFO, however, is certainly the single of fruition for me and, hopefully after listening, will also be for you.

UFO is a song brimming with this eccentric, indie-pop, fun energy — and good lord does the music video help with this. Vocalist Helena Olasveegena does an excellent job being the keyboardist of the band alongside her vocal responsibilities, creating a post-chorus of wondrous and mysterious sounding allure, fitting the extra-terrestrial theme. It is a slightly reminiscent sound to the likes of Pom Poko or Katy J Pearson. Overall, it’s a really well-rounded release.

After now what is a year of releases, UFO feels like the solidifying of Veps style and flair – it’s going to be incredibly exciting to see what the future holds for them. I expect we will be seeing more and more of them in time.

UFO is out now via Kanine Records.
