My Own God is the latest release from France-based rockers You Said Strange, and the lovechild of early noughties Dandy Warhols and modern-day, heartland rocker Sam Fender. The tune keeps up a booming drumbeat, ever present, like a thumping heartbeat as the group deliver punchy chorus after punchy chorus. Midway through the song, it builds yet higher, with fuzzy guitar and ridiculously catchy vocals.

My Own God is just one of those tracks that, no matter where you are, when it is or who you’re with, fits the situation perfectly. It’s been stuck in my head for weeks, and makes for a stellar taste of the quartet’s upcoming EP. It’s indie rock meets washed out denim jackets meets the Killers, all condensed into (a far too little) three minutes. This could be a hit, and it deserves to be.
