“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”
Such were the cryptic, quasi-religious words posted on Britpop giants Oasis’ social media today, as the Gallagher brothers announced – fifteen years after their monumental break-up in 2009 – they would reunite for a summer 2025 tour.
The group, who have maintained a level of almost unprecedented popularity well into the 2020s, teased fans in days prior with a clip uploaded to social media stating ‘27.08.2024’ in the band’s iconic font. Though some still doubted a full reunion was on the cards, the news comes as perhaps less shock to those who witnessed Supersonic singer Liam Gallagher’s set at Reading festival recently, when he dedicated Half The World Away to brother Noel.
Since before the pandemic, Liam implied he would be up for a reunion, but it took Noel – who has enjoyed success with his own band, the High Flying Birds – longer to warm up to the idea. The press release for the reunion stated: “There has been no great revelatory moment that has ignited the reunion – just the gradual realisation that the time is right.”
The pair will perform just fourteen shows between July and August next year: in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin, including four non-consecutive nights at the iconic Wembley Stadium. However, many fans theorise this will be just a taste of what’s to come; the fourteen dates were billed as the ‘domestic leg’ of the tour. There are no signs of the outspoken artists releasing any new material, either.
With over 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify, several multi-platinum albums across the world, and a best of compilation album Time Flies… 1994-2009 having spent 572 weeks in the Top 100 Official Albums Chart, there’s no danger of tickets going spare. All that’s left is for the brothers to decide which legendary tunes to stick on the setlist.
