Since they split up in 2014, fans harboured hopes that at some point the well-loved British Hip Hop duo, Rizzle Kicks, would make a return. It’s been a long 10-year wait but there’s finally confirmation of new music on the way from Brighton boys Jordan Stevens and Harley Alexander-Sule, with a new single set to be released at the end of the month.

They’ve teased fans on social media for nearly two weeks, starting with a picture posted of Harley holding up a blank sheet of paper, which began speculation that new music could be on the way. They then counted us down on social media for the following five days, posting with 5, 4, 3, 2 and then 1 finger held up, before posting a video showcasing a small snippet of a new song with the caption “We’re back.”.

Today (August 19th) we got official confirmation of when we could expect to hear new music, as they posted across their social media that new single Javelin would be out on Friday 30th August. They posted a 30 second video alongside the announcement which gives us a feel for the song; a groovy, feel-good vibe — a Rizzle Kicks trademark — although perhaps with a more mature feel to it than their older tracks.

Weather also appears to be a big theme surrounding their new material, having yesterday posted a video that features a cassette labelled “Rizzle Kicks weather” and sharing news of the announcement with a graphic that again showed “Rizzle Kicks weather” at 6pm; a fitting theme for a duo associated with ‘Britishness’.

The new single will give fans an idea of the direction they’ve taken with their new music, with hopefully more announcements to follow.

Javelin is out August 30th.
