Ealing-based band White Lies have announced their sixth album entitled As I Try Not to Fall Apart. The announcement came with the release of the album’s title track and a music video. It follows 2019’s Five. The band will embark on a three-month-long album tour in 2022, making various stops throughout the UK & Europe.

As I Try Not to Fall Apart has an indie, synth-pop groove with smooth drums that complement. It’s a song that fits right into the “dance the pain away” niche of the indie-pop realm, but what makes White Lies’ song a standout is the small elements that enhance the listening experience and the silky, floaty vocals. Its bright tonality is sure to reel in those unfamiliar with the band’s work but, with each listen, there is something that comes to light that was missed before. Reminiscent of the 80’s new wave in style and postmodern existentialist in lyrical content, it’s an intriguing number. Even without trying, it’s obvious that White Lies have reached a point in their music career that they’re not only comfortable with but good at.

The song’s music video is set to a 4:3 fullscreen ratio and has a muted, earthy colour palette. We see White Lies’ lead singer Harry McVeigh as he resides in an old house covered in sand and scattered furniture. As the song progresses, the sand begins to fall once more and begins to smother him. By its end he finally gets up from the sandpile and walks away from the chair; his figure is now just a silhouette.

Coming off of the heels of Five, the band have made a name for themselves as a solid act. The critical acclaim of their previous album has solidified the anticipation for As I Try Not To Fall Apart. If the album’s title track is a testament to the album as a whole, it’s safe to say that there will be plenty to look forward to from their next full-length outing. Following up a successful album is a daunting task — but it appears that they are willing to see it through without compromising anything about what makes them great.

As I Try Not To Fall Apart will be released on 18th February 2022 via PAIS.
