Give the Devil His Due is a tale of temptation old as time – since biblical times, actually. Originally released back in 2022, it’s the third single from German-born band, Absinthe Green, featuring songwriter Eirini on the microphone, and Swedish drummer Snowy Shaw (King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Dream Evil) as the titular malevolence.

The opening riff is pure ‘80s AC/DC, before chugging into something between Motorhead and classic power metal acts like Warlock and Halestorm. It’s the hard rock fan’s dirty dream, full of sweat-soaked licks, Satanic verses and a drumbeat worthy of Thor.

The metal anthem portrays Satan as a whiskey-drinking, sweet-talking sleaze-lord, getting to unleash his vocal chops for a bridge or two. It’s a track that harks back to the golden age of heavy metal, paying homage without stepping over into shameless copy. Rock and roll is well and truly still kicking – this track is proof enough – and with the devil at their back, Absinthe Green can’t put a foot wrong.
