Hailing from Bath, the indie duo English Weather — aka Jack March and Aidan Petrie — are back with their newly released single Heavy Rain.

The upbeat nature of the backing drums paired with Aidan’s soft vocals immediately draws you to this new one from the duo. The whole track sounds like a warm embrace that makes you want to hide under the duvets in those days when the weather really isn’t up to much. Their inspirations range from Nick Drake to The Beatles, evident through their back catalogue of beautifully put-together melodies matched with their modern take on 60’s/70’s sounds.

With their tongue-in-cheek lyrics referring to wanting someone close by, this song feels like a refreshingly honest love song that captures the complex emotions that comes with longing for someone. As soon as the song is eclipsing a minute in, Aidan comes through with a riff which adds another layer to this track — there’s no denying these boys are beautifully in sync with one another.

The undeniable longing for someone within this song — “I know I want you with me, this is where I’ve been / I know I may seem far away” — is quite simply an open love letter and with Aidan’s stripped-back guitar complementing the song-writing, this return from English Weather is testament to how simplicity is key in making a good all-round indie track.

Heavy Rain is out now via Park Street Records.
