Open It Close It is the new single from DIY garage band British Birds. It follows the release of their debut record, In Search of Mr Rykyn, which earned the group critical acclaim from the likes of BBC 6 Music and Louder Than War magazine.

The track crackles with energy from the first note, held together with parcel tape and rich, Californian-style guitar. Clattering cymbals and hammering drumbeats give way to smooth vocals from frontman Bobby Mambo. With an explosive, addictive chorus owing as much to Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound as acts like Metronomy and Pavement, this one’s a siege engine wrapped in power chords.

The four-piece’s new release is more than just the stripped-back guitar and discontent lyrics of a thousand indie rock anthems before it. There’s a real depth to British Birds’ new single, whilst having all the raw energy and replayability of timeless classics. Open it, close it, extra strong parcel tape it: I don’t care. Listen to it.

Open It Close It is out now.
