Since releasing their debut single Britpop Genius earlier this year, we’ve been keeping a close eye on Glasgow-based indie rockers GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH – and, boy, has it been worth it! Their latest single Pocket Money (Dan’s Song) is an extremely exciting track that (not to be dramatic) is one of the most addictive songs we’ve heard all year.

It seems to bring out a completely different side to the Scottish four-piece when compared to their debut. Not only does it play with various textural themes taking us on a dynamic journey through GSF’s crisp and vibrant soundscape, but it also reveals how their sound can be moulded into different genres, whilst still retaining its characteristic playful energy.

From tight rhythms, a head-bopping bass groove, and brain scratching vocals, Pocket Money (Dan’s Song) truly shows GSF’s sonic brilliance and chameleonic qualities, with each member effortlessly gelling with one another no matter the change in tempo, style or emotional state – which honestly shouldn’t be taken for granted with any band, let alone one who made their debut this year.

And, as if it couldn’t get any better (and we didn’t think it could), the Glasgow band even included a sax solo — courtesy of Rosalind Orr — for all those sax suckers out there, bringing to mind some of the best tracks from modern music giants The 1975 and Sam Fender.

Somehow GSF have surprised us yet again and we couldn’t be happier about it as they’re continuing to prove that they’re one of Glasgow’s most exciting bands.
