Hutch share their new single ‘The Bow’
The Brighton up-and-comers share their latest addition to an already fine-tuned discography.
Hutch is one of those bizarre and fascinating accumulations of like-minded individuals who have formed themselves into a band, almost as if fate banded these four individuals together. It’s a band whose style and aura heavily sway into some form of late mid-late 60s dream world, somewhat similar to the likes of FUR. Hailing from sunny Brighton and forming in lockdown, Hutch find themselves as one of those bands that makes you want to stick around and keep them in your peripherals just to see what they’ll do next. Quickly turning a number of heads with their previous three singles, starting with their debut release Radiator Centre. After a strong touring season, Hutch now welcome their first single release of the year with The Bow.
The Bow is a song that quickly downs its almost psychedelic roots right from the start. The band have clearly taken pleasure in filling this one with fabulous jangly guitar riffs that wouldn’t have seen themselves amiss on the C86 compilation. The vocals from the group are light, warm and fuzzy at first, slowly becoming more untangled as the song develops. While these themes are present in earlier releases by the band, something is different here; the concepts from their other singles are taken here, worked on, and turned up to ten.
Running into the chorus, it likes to take a moment, perhaps merely a few seconds, to take a few seconds away from the madness, with some calmer, softer harmonious vocals. It’s quite a testament to the band’s ability to have such a large range of vocal pitches in one song and for them to fit so well really. This one moment of calm sanity is swiftly and cruelly taken back as the madness of the guitar returns; at that point, the song almost takes it upon itself to ensure you are lost within it. It turns into a cult-like melody, with what can only be described as a chant coming from the whole band, almost as if to call a new-age deity. And as for the music video to go along with this release, it’s certainly something that Arthur Brown himself would have been proud with I’m sure.
It’s another interesting and intriguing release that the band can add to under its belt – they’ve taken their previous ideas and experimented by taking them to the next level. For those who have been successfully entranced by this single, Hutch is working tirelessly through Autumn with gig dates all across the country.
