Even in the most light-hearted of ways, Matt Maltese has an innate ability to tug at your heart

Indie artist Matt Maltese is back with a brand new single entitled Shoe. The second single off of his upcoming third album Good Morning It’s Now Tomorrow, Maltese takes the object of shoes and makes them into a metaphor for infatuation and being together with someone.

The song’s chorus will without a doubt make its way into your head and be stuck there; it’s undeniably catchy even on the first listen. Centred around the combination of a snazzy acoustic guitar arrangement and a smooth drum beat, accompanied by complimentary piano melodies and a few electric guitar diddies, Shoe feels like something you would listen to while laying out on the beach (and if you’ve seen the video, chances are you might find Matt there).

Maltese sings about finding someone who he sees as his perfect match and how he doesn’t want to let them go. His affections and assurance are so strong that being without his newfound infatuation feels like there’s no purpose, confessing “I don’t wanna be a notch in your belt / When you hold my hand I could melt / I declare it’s a tragic world without you” — just like how one shoe seems meaningless without the other. It may seem odd at first but Maltese’s effortless charm will make even those most opposed to a catchy indie tune finding something about it to enjoy.

Even in the most light-hearted of ways, Matt Maltese has an innate ability to tug at your heart. He may fill it with a warm radiance with a song like Shoe, and he just might make you want to hear more of his effortless vocal range and songwriting. If your summer playlist needs a carefree ode to romance, Shoe is the single for you.

Good Morning It’s Now Tomorrow is out on 8th October via Nettwerk.
