LA’s finest Mystic Braves unveil clean cut ‘Sundown’
The LA psychedelic duo join forces with The Growlers’ producer to deliver a deliciously smooth sound
If you’ve previously listened to the psychedelic outfit, comprising of Julian Ducatenziler and Shane Stotsenberg, then you’ll already be well accustomed to their carefree discography.
Sundown is no different, but it moves away from the fuzzy psych-rock that pushed Mystic Braves to the forefront of the LA psych scene when they released their self-titled debut album back in 2012. I mean, there’s not a fuzz pedal in sight. If this is a teaser of a new era, I can’t wait for the album.
Now nine years and four studio albums later, the easy-going collective are back with a cleaner, smoother track that pushes their sound further.
Produced by Kyle Mullarky, the notable producer of similar artists such as The Growlers, Babe Rainbow and Allah-Las, it’s clear to see that they’ve managed to create their vision with one of the aptest producers for their style.
Although the track is something that could slot right into a place on a soundtrack to a 1960s movie, they still hold onto that funky and modern twist that makes their music such an easy escape.
Think of it like this; it’s a hot day (awful, right?) but then someone hands you an ice-cold Diet Coke. That’s how this track sounds: like an ice-cold Diet Coke.
Sundown is the lead single from Mystic Braves’ fifth studio album ‘Pacific Afterglow’, due out in the winter.
