You can’t help but wonder about the fleeting moments of life when you listen to a Boy Scouts track. It’s bound to happen. That’s Life Honey is no different, a wry and amusing song about making the best of the hopeless moments in life as Vick chants “But I don’t have the money / So I make do / Well, that’s life, honey”.

In her songs, Vick has always conveyed her ideas and experiences through simple and sober lyricism. There may be a sense of gloom but she makes a point to always give hope to the listeners. “I’d figure out how to rewire my brain / If only I had the money,” Vick sings about not being able to afford a therapist and fantasizing about getting a chip implanted that would rewire her brain and resolve her problems. As the lead single from the record, That’s Life Honey sets the tone, creating an aura of sombre yet complex tunes.

On her upcoming record Wayfinder, she joins once again with longtime collaborator Stephen Steinbrink. Having included a few more collaborators, the album is sure to emanate new and bolder sounds than Vick’s prior body of work.

That’s Life Honey is a testament to Vick’s expressive and floaty vocals with layers of harmony combined with rich strands of slide guitar, organ and strings. Directed by Jake Nokovic, the track is accompanied by a serene music video out in the sea as Vick strums away on her guitar, writing the lyrics to That’s Life Honey.

Boy Scouts music is timeless. Taylor Vick may have mastered bedroom pop, but we are yet to discover her truest, boldest album Wayfinder. Having found the title to Wayfinder in Sallie Tisdale’s book Advice for Future Corpses (and Those Who Love Them): A Practical Perspective on Death and Dying, it prompted Vick to self reflect on her music. “The act of making music has been my Wayfinder during the past year,” she shares with ANTI.
