Olivesque shares syrupy earworm ‘Anomaly’

The Nightbus fronter returns with her unique style of glossy bedroom pop and pin-sharp production.

In comparison to her melancholy 2023 singles Alice and Death, Manchester-based singer-songwriter Olivesque has ‘rebooted’ her style of glossy bedroom pop to produce bubbly earworm Anomaly.

Easily the happiest sounding Olivesque song to date, the track contrastingly features wry, darker than they first appear lyrics as it documents the thought processes and subconscious manipulation of a character who selfishly wants someone to stay with them, despite refusing to meet their needs in a relationship.

With the lyrics acting as an antagonist to the syrupy melodies, sparkling synths and ethereal vocals, which dance among the song’s breezy clouds of sonic romanticism, Anomaly is a sky-high track that compellingly and deceptively floats personal confrontations into view through upbeat pop soundscapes that are both accessible and memorable.

It’s catchy, pin-sharp chorus is impossible to get out of your head once you’ve heard it once; much like the manipulative thoughts that the song’s character is feeding to their partner, while the song’s high-level of lyrical detail and sonic certainty are what makes the track so courageously unique and artistically unforgettable.

Anomaly will surely be a favourite for Olivesque fans everywhere and is out now via Some Kinda Love/PIAS.
