The Glaswegian four-piece combine dark lyrics with bright indie-rock guitar lines in a single which sums up our feelings about a (hopefully) late-pandemic summer.

In their new single, Pizza Crunch have provided the ever-intriguing combination of raw, powerful and almost gothic lyrics with a bright indie-rock guitar line reminiscent of the early 2010s.

Pizza Crunch concern themselves with themes of mental health and reliance on medication — hence the title of the track — yet the summery feel of the song leaves us feeling anything but depressed.

Through centring the song around the name of antidepressant medication, Ewan Hearns normalises the brutality of mental illness and, to an extent, the result of over a years worth of isolation.

The intense self-awareness of the lyricism in the track is inspiring and relatable which is what has led this track to establish itself as an ear-worm for me since its release (particularly the chorus). It is unmercifully honest yet holds a facade of optimism through the spunky drum line, rendering the track an easy listen.

For fans of everything alternative or post-punk, Celexa is a must-have on your playlist to convert your friends to your music taste!
