‘Punish’ marks a new chapter for Ethel Cain
It’s the first track from upcoming album ‘Perverts’.

After two and a half years, Ethel Cain is set to provide us with a brand new, incredible project labelled Perverts. Earlier this month, Ethel dropped a brand new single Punish, which was accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful music video.
Like Cain’s other works, this too was not a short track, but it is clear that Cain is forever evolving her style. Although the core of her style has not disappeared in the slightest, this new track gives us a feel of what we can expect from the essence of the upcoming project. It is not a divergence from her musical identity but rather a view of her musical soul from a different angle.
It is clear Cain is still grappling with religious struggle, its tangibility, and its complexity. Although now, the melancholy ballad has been changed and moulded into the surreal; an especially ambient experience and, as Cain herself says, into an “exploration of sonic negative space”.

The whole album is set to drop on the 8th of January 2025 via Daughters of Cain Records, when we’ll be able to experience more of this dark, emotional, experimental, and forever-engrossing artist.
