The Last Dinner Party finally release their first single ‘Nothing Matters’

The Londoners’ highly anticipated debut is a feast for the ears.

After over a year of gigs on the live circuit, The Last Dinner Party have made a name for themselves despite not releasing a single note of music until now. With clips of their early shows — featuring the band clad in their signature gothic style — racking up thousands of streams on YouTube, the genre-defying group gave the music world a taster of their 80s art-rock influenced sound many months ago, generating a fast-growing fan base, whilst also making a number of record labels desperate for their signatures.

For those of us who have similarly become obsessed with this new band (but have sadly not been able to see them live), we have been dying to get our fill of The Last Dinner Party’s euphoric energy on streaming platforms. So, the news that the Londoners were finally inviting us to their party online went down extremely well.

Their almighty sound, that channels the bombastic-ness of Kate Bush, Sparks and Florence + The Machine, whilst remaining entirely its own, is as unapologetic as ever on their dynamic debut Nothing Matters. It’s bold, free, honest, and not afraid to be exactly what it is.

Every member of the band chucks everything at the track, holding nothing back. They mean every single note they play and every single word they sing, creating a song that is joyous, jubilant and filled to the brim with decadent tones.

Their catchy but poetic lyricism is highlighted beautifully by Abigail Morris’s expressive vocals and the maximalist instrumentation of Georgia Davies (bass), Lizzie Mayland (guitar), Aurora Nishevci (keys), and Emily Roberts (lead guitar). It is a completely captivating track and is one that I have to say I can’t wait to see live.

The Last Dinner Party have definitely arrived exactly on time with their first single, giving us the best (official) introduction I have heard from a band in recent years.
